Southbank Place

Southbank Place is a new build project on the side of the Thames in Southbank. The project was phased and completed in 2021. Southbank place comprises of a mixture of residential and commercial buildings with a common basement area, private health club and spa.

Blakeglow Systems were approached by a number of companies to work on various buildings within this project, with the client being Canary Wharf Contractors.

Infrastructure

Blakeglow Systems were asked to provide the following for the basement/infrastructure package:

  • Sitewide Fibre IRS system with feeds for each building and commercial unit. System downtime was required to be minimal, and the building has a Building Maintenance Unit that can obstruct the signal so a redundant array with automatic switchover was proposed. The system comprises of 2 sets of 4 satellite dishes and terrestrial antennas in different locations with electronics sensing when signal levels drop and switching to the other set of signals. This process takes milli-seconds so no signal loss will be noticed by users of the system. These signals were then distributed by fibre to the rest of Southbank Place.
  • Sitewide Energy Monitoring System: Blakeglow Systems were asked to integrate various energy meters across the site into an energy monitoring system specified by Canary Wharf Construction – One Sight Solutions ESight. The majority of the meters were connected to MBUS networks for the Esight software to talk to, however some of the meters were unable to communicate with this protocol so MODBUS had to be used instead.

5 Belvedere Road (Building 6 & 7)

Blakeglow Systems were asked to provide the following under the building 6 & 7 package:

  • Fibre IRS system backbone for the two towers feeding the 4 sets of signals from the infrastructure IRS system into each apartment
  • Coaxial mini-system within each apartment converting the fibre signals to RF signals and distributing the signals from two of the satellite’s to each bedroom.
  • Visitor Door Entry System: Urmet’s IPerVoice system was installed with 10 video entrance panels, and 99 Urmet Max handsfree video intercoms were installed into apartments. The system used Cisco managed network switches and provides for resiliency with redundant routes, automatically recovering from any network failures. A PC based concierge switchboard was installed on the reception desk. The Urmet Max handsets have inputs that can interface with other systems and these were utilised to signal smoke detector alarms and plant alarms from each individual apartment. The apartment door bell was also connected the intercom.
  • Metering system: Blakeglow were asked to cable and connect the Heat Interface and Cooling Interface units in each apartment ready for connection to an Evinox metering and charging system.

8 Casson Square (Building 3)

Blakeglow were asked to do provide the following under the building 3 package:

  • Fibre IRS system backbone for the two towers feeding the 4 sets of signals from the infrastructure IRS system into each apartment
  • Coaxial mini-system within each apartment converting the fibre signals to RF signals and distributing the signals from two of the satellite’s to each bedroom.
  • Visitor Door Entry System: Urmet’s IPerVoice system was installed with 13 video entrance panels, and 307 intercoms were installed into apartments. The system used Cisco managed network switches and provides for resiliency with redundant routes, automatically recovering from any network failures. Two PC based concierge switchboards were installed on the reception desk and in the extra care office. The Urmet intercoms have inputs that can interface with other systems and these were utilised to signal smoke detector alarms and for the door bell to each apartment.
