Grand Union

Grand Union Phase 1

Grand Union is a new build project in Alperton, near to Wembley. The project is phased with phase 1 due for completion in 2023. At completion phase 1 will comprise 400 apartments, a residents bowling alley and facilities and numerous commercial spaces.

Blakeglow Systems were tasked with providing the following systems:

  • Visitor Door Entry: Comelit’s VIP system was selected for not only its market leading aesthetics but the resiliency of its peer-to-peer communications. Peer-to-peer systems are not server reliant and therefore any item in the system can fail and the rest of the system continue to work.
  • Residents Access Control: Keri Systems Mercury controllers were selected with Keri Systems Doors.Net software to oversee the running of it. Farpointe data’s Delta 3 readers were selected for their sleek looks, OSDP compatibility and DESfire EV1 and EV2 support. Doors.Net has no limitations on the size of system, number of users, access groups or time zones and is a true IP offering. Lift control was used across 7 sets of lifts. HikVision ANPR camera’s were provided for control of the car parks.
  • CCTV: HikVision Camera’s and Network Video recorders were selected at the clients request for the project. Static 4Mpx cameras were used internally, except for the lifts which had 2Mpx full HD cameras , and externally 3.6Mpx PTZ cameras were used. The cameras were presented to the concierge team using HikVision’s iVMS software, paving the way for future phases to be incorporated. Altron Columns were selected for camera’s that needed to be away from buildings, each column providing for up to 3 cameras.
  • Ethernet Network Backbone: Cisco switches were selected for the 1000Mbps site wide network. Cisco switches are market leading both for features and reliability with a Mean Time to Fail of over 50 years. The system was designed as a partial mesh in order to provide reliability at a reasonable cost. Vlans were provided for each system connected to the network. A Watchguard security appliance was selected to protect the networks that needed internet access.
  • Car chargers were installed into all three car parks and Blakeglow Systems provided internet connections for these.
  • The BMS system required links between buildings and Blakeglow Systems provided a VLAN and switchports for this.
  • Two Vlan’s were provided for Ballymore’s own internal use, one for their PC’s and another for their VoIP phones.

Blakeglow Systems monitored the systems using PRTG’s Network Monitoring software. The software actively monitors both that network links are working and the traffic flowing through those links enabling Blakeglow Systems to be confident that each and every Ethernet connection is 100% fault free. The system is also capable of notifying Blakeglow Systems directly in the event of any network fault on the system.
