Lift / Elevator Control
Most Access Control systems are capable of controlling Lifts.
Dependant upon the access control system, the lift manufacturer, and the actual model of lift this is achieved in different ways.
The original means of achieving control is by relay output from the access control system to the lift electronics, however this is changing as manufacturers work on integrations that enable communication across Ethernet between the lift and the access control system.
In an integration using relays there needs to be one relay per controlled floor per lift, so if a lift can travel from ground to 10th floor then 19 relays would be needed per lift assuming that the ground floor would be a free access floor.
In an integration via Ethernet there is only needs to be a network link between the lift and the access control system
Lift control, system dependant, can:
- Control access to floors individual floors enabling segregation of apartments in buildings subject to Secured by Design requirements
- Control access to floor sets – for instance a resident fob could allow access to the residents floor and also the residents facilities floor, but not to maintenance floors
- Record the floors and times a fob is used to access them
- Integrate into destination dispatch lift systems
